The Passion of the Christ - This movie was released in February 2004. I remember it was so popular that it was hard to get a ticket. Everyone wanted to see how Mel Gibson would portray the last 12 hours of Jesus Christ's life on earth. It was a vivid account and most of the audience winced at the vile way that Jesus was treated and tortured. The movie is based on the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John in the New Testament of the Holy Bible.
The movie had mixed reviews because it was a Biblical account of Jesus Christ. The Christian's wanted to see if it followed scripture. The non-believer wanted to see it to give reviews and out of pure curiosity.
Being a Christian myself, I have read about these 12 hours that include Jesus praying, being tempted by satan, the Lord's Supper, betrayal by Judas and the crucifixion and more since I was a small child. Later, when I was more mature, I tried to imagine what Jesus experienced. I was not able to fully experience the magnitude of the punishment in my mind. I do believe it was portrayed clearly in the movie. The movie was violent and intense. It was so graphic that many times I would not look at the screen because I was broken down deep into my soul. What He endured for mankind was more than I could take in.
My experience was to see grown men weep at the sight of how Jesus Christ suffered. The movie left a divine impression on me. I noticed that when the movie ended people left the theatre in total silence. That is how it captures your mind and soul. It leaves you speechless.
