Passion
Dreams
I love baseball - from T-ball to professional - I love it! I guess I should say I love to WATCH baseball. Mississippi State and Ole Miss are in the finals. Of course, we had the channel set to ESPN and no one better change it (not even my great-grandson, who pretty much runs things when he is at my house). I was watching the college playoffs with anticipation to see who will be going to Omaha for the College World Series. I started thinking. My friends say that can be dangerous and I somewhat agree. Back to my point. There is a lot of talent in the sport, but I don't think anyone would put in the time, effort, body fatigue, and stress if they did not have a passion for it. I remember when my son played ball. He and most of his teammates didn't complain about practice. They loved the game. They wanted to be the best. Instead of groaning or wishing there would be no practice, they usually came up to the coach to ask "When do we practice?"
It is the same for anything you choose to do in life. It may be running, singing, photography, dancing, teaching...even writing. Usually, if you have a true passion for it, somewhere inside of you there is a dream. A dream that becomes a goal without even realizing it. An athlete may dream of playing professionally and set the goal where they are to be the best at their position or on the team. A goal to make the All-Star Team. A singer wants to be on stage and entertain people. They have a passion for it. He or she may begin in church or the school choir. They set a goal as they dream of singing in the school play. They practice while waiting for tryouts instead of sitting around texting on the phone. After getting the lead in the school play he/she may dream of winning a local competition. Later they may dream always working toward a goal to maybe be on American Idol or the Voice. But it all started with passion, dream, and setting small goals.
The same with writing. A writer seems to never stop thinking and always takes a lot of notes. Unlike the other two dreamers, it is hard to judge your talent or worthiness to write. School grades may be an encouragement, but that is only one person's opinion. Maybe you get to write for the school paper and get feedback from others. Me...I wrote some poems that people liked, but I dreamed of writing a novel and having it published. I didn't know if I could hold the attention of the reader. I tend to write like I talk. I read and write often. My dream came true. I had my first novel, Broken Pieces, published in 2018. When I start writing I can be typing for hours and it feel like only a few minutes. I lose all track of time. That is because writing is one of my passions.
I wonder how many people have let their passions and dreams die. I almost did. I'm so thankful that I took the step and had the courage to see if I could get a book published. I was fortunate to have TouchPoint Press give me a chance.
I have heard it said, "If you do something you love, you will never work a day in your life."
Find your passion. Keep your dreams alive. Conquer your goals.
