With all the stressors of life in general, we sometimes forget to just enjoy "being" or at least I do. My husband is one of the hardest working men I have ever known. We have only taken a "getaway" trip alone about three times in our 24-year marriage.
For most of our marriage, he has worked away from home, so when the opportunity arises to be home, that is the place he wants to be.
We are older and for years I have been buying the Country Family Reunion tapes for different occasions as gifts. These are the classic country-years and most of the people are gone now, very old or at least as old as we are. On these videos, the different artists sing and tell stories of their personal lives and stories from working "on the road". Scrolling through a social media site I found that there was to be a"Birthday Bash" for Tony Booth and that Darrell McCall would be a featured guest. Bobby likes them both. I told him "This is something you would enjoy." Not much else was said about it, but the seed was planted.
To make a long story short, we took three days to ourselves and attended this get together. We agreed, no phones, no social media, no drama...Just time together. Bobby had never been to a large dance hall or seen the flow of good two-step and waltzes. There were all ages in attendance and a very friendly crowd. We sat at a table with two other couples that drove from Midland, Tx. Darrell gave them a "shout out" for coming so far. Tony then announced that we had come from Mississippi. We had a great time visiting with everyone.
The next morning as we were preparing to leave, Darrell and his beautiful wife Mona approached Bobby and commented that we were at the show the night before. Bobby affirmed his statement. He went on to say "Your wife bought my book." Bobby agreed again. He then wanted to be sure he had signed it and said how much he or they appreciated people still coming out to support them. We spent a good while visiting with the two of them. Mona and I talked on a personal level for a few minutes. Then we shared several hugs from each other and Darrell said he hoped we would see each other again.
I hope we do. Bobby has rarely treated himself to anything he might enjoy...just because.... with no work involved.
OH! I almost forgot, Tony Booth, Mona, and Darrell McCall took my business card and promised to read my book Broken Promises!!!

Yes! Sometimes it is fun and worth it to "treat yourself" and maybe someone else too!!
