Unless you live on another planet, you know that Barbara Bush passed from this life leaving behind a legacy that many would aspire to. I sure would. She was a public figure. A First Lady of our great United States. I'm sure many articles will recount stories of her grace, quick wit, devotion to her country, signature pearls, and speaking out where you were clear where she stood. The legacy I'm talking about is much more personal. She loved her family. She was proud of each of them, but her first and primary focus was to the love of her life, her husband. You could see the love in the early years in pictures and then all of us watched as they grew old together. She was devoted to him. She was a fighter like a "Mother Hen" when it came to any of her family. I've known a lot of people similar in my life, for which I am very blessed. Our country is fortunate to have such a beautiful and sincere role model and First Lady.
The legacy I would like to share with her is to be known as a person that was:
Devoted and Loving – To family, friends, country and unwavering values.
Honest – That people knew they could trust me in all areas. Someone you know you can share your deepest thoughts and know they were locked away and safe. Be a person that no one ever had a concern about leaving anything from paperwork to your most precious jewels out in the open.
Humble – Never think or let any of your family think you/they are better than anyone else. Don't look down on anyone.
Fighter – To always fight for what is right and believe that as obstacles and challenges come, hang in because nothing lasts forever. Tomorrow is another day.
Prayer Warrior/Christian - She prayed for her husband, family, and our country.
Funny – Humor is a great asset. Sometimes mine comes across as sarcasm. I would never want to be remembered as tacky, just witty and know that I helped someone smile or laugh.
What you see is what you get – Except for her signature pearls I don't think Barbara put much emphasis on her daily outward appearance, such as makeup. She always looked radiant and dressed nice. I'm speaking of her natural beauty that came from inside. I need work in this area because I try to stay as young-looking as I can for as long as I can. However, I want my inside to be more beautiful than my outward appearance.
The most touching tribute came from her granddaughter Jenna Bush Hagar. I am posting the link below. If any of my children or grandchildren would write anything close to this I would feel I had accomplished my "legacy".
